City of Trees

Sendai is the largest city in the Tohoku region and serves as an excellent gateway to northern Japan. Known as the “City of Trees,” it combines urban convenience with abundant greenery and nearby natural attractions. The city has historic sites connected to the famous feudal lord Date Masamune, including the Sendai Castle ruins and various museums. Wide boulevards lined with trees contribute to a pleasant atmosphere rarely found in large cities. Sendai is renowned for its food, particularly gyutan (grilled beef tongue), fresh seafood, and regional specialties. Festivals such as the Tanabata Festival attract visitors from across Japan. Also check out the nearby Matsushima Bay, one of Japan’s premier scenic areas. Sendai provides a comfortable base for exploring a region with great onsens and natural scenery, that remains less visited than Japan’s main tourist routes.
